It’s a cracker! Your Fingerprint review of the year

Category: News

Christmas is fast-approaching, so what better time to take a look at the past 12 months, with a rundown of some of the most important stories we’ve covered this year?

And, as it’s Christmas, we’re throwing in some festive cheer with a cracker joke quiz (answers at the bottom of the page).

1. Which athlete is warmest during winter?

Back in January, you might have read 7 simple but effective ways to banish the winter blues and this top advice is important once again. We advise:

  • Get out into nature and soak up the fresh air
  • Get plenty of exercise, especially outdoors
  • Work on getting the right amount of good quality sleep
  • Eat healthier
  • Socialise more
  • Take control of your budget
  • Think about your future self.

If you’d like help with the last two of these in 2024, get in touch.

2. What do Santa’s little helpers learn at school?

In April, we revealed The best age to start talking to a financial planner and found that starting early gives you the best chance of reaching your financial goals. Having said that, it’s when we reach big life milestones that financial advice can really help.

And remember, it’s never too late to start talking to a financial planner about your dream retirement or a brand new home.

3. What do the royal family play at Christmas instead of musical chairs?

In May, we brought you Your guide to the coronation of King Charles III but the topical news stories didn’t end there.

You might also have read Rise of the machines: The role of technology and AI in your finances and Why President Biden’s 3rd year might be good news for US and UK investors, the latter of which will be even more important in 2024 as the US election nears.

4. What does Santa spend his wages on?

If one story dominated financial headlines in 2023, it was the continued cost of living crisis.

Throughout the year you might have read our take on the economy as we revealed 3 key factors affecting when the cost of living crisis will end and asked Where next for the Bank of England base rate? back in August.

In November, as bank interest rates began to rise, we looked at Why now might still be the right time to invest despite rising rates and found that the long-term benefits of investing could outweigh rising rates with your high street bank.

5. Who delivers presents to cats?

Finally, with Christmas almost here, you might have read last month’s look at How HMRC gifting rules could help you give the gift of an investment this Christmas – and it doesn’t even need wrapping!
