My Shining Star, based in nearby Rainham, is an amazing local organisation providing financial support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer.
We will be fundraising for My Shining Star throughout the year so be sure to check our Community page regularly for all the latest news on our efforts.

But first, a closer look at the amazing work that My Shining Star do.
My Shining Star provide emotional and financial support for children diagnosed with cancer and their families
Around 1,600 children under the age of 15 are diagnosed with cancer each year, with devastating consequences for the child and their family.
Founders and trustees of the charity became involved in helping Ruby Laura Young and her family in 2015 when Ruby was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Having witnessed at first hand the emotional and financial effect the diagnosis had on Ruby and her family, My Shining Star was born. It was registered as a charity in 2017.
The charity aims to provide financial support for families dealing with a life-changing diagnosis and the often lengthy period of treatment that can follow.
From daily car parking fees to fuel and travel expenses, being there for a sick child incurs costs that not all charities can support with.
A parent looking after a child might need to give up work, leading to issues paying rent or a mortgage. Holding down a job or maintaining a business in these already stressful circumstances can be tough. The charity can help provide help towards insurance, clothes, and household bills.
Siblings are looked after too, helping them deal with the emotional distress of the diagnosis, as well as their own feelings of abandonment, anxiety, or fear.
My Shining Star focuses on the whole family unit, making a real difference to a poorly child, their parents, siblings, and extended family.
