Jack Kerswell “In the Spotlight” – Your Fingerprint team update

Category: News

In your latest look at the news from Fingerprint Financial Planning HQ, you’ll find an introduction to sales manager, Jack Kerswell. Celebrating his first anniversary with the Fingerprint team, Jack has 30 years of experience elsewhere in financial services.

You can also join us in celebrating a big birthday and some amazing exam success.

But first, find out all you need to know about Fingerprint’s sales manager as we put Jack “In the Spotlight”.

Jack comes to Fingerprint with decades of experience and a newly rekindled love of golf

Outside of the office, Jack is married to Sarah and has a passion for food, music, and sport.

He loves cooking, building his eclectic record collection, and watching England play rugby. He has just started playing golf again after a 10-year break.

With 30 years in finance already behind him, Jack is always keen to work with a team that cares about client outcomes and that is proud of the company they represent.

What made you choose to join the Fingerprint Team?

“I was in the position of wanting to make a really good choice for my next career step,” says Jack.

“With so many years of experience, I had a real desire to stay in the industry and find a company I could really make a difference with.

“When I spoke to Paul and Ben [our principal partners], I was really impressed with their ethos and beliefs. It was very clear during our meetings that they had built a strong business on the greatest principle: putting the client first.

“In my experience, this is something that is often said but so rarely followed through on.”

Fingerprint’s ethos and client-centred approach came across throughout the interview.

“It was an invaluable interview process,” Jack continues. “Paul and Ben spoke openly about the position the business was currently in and what was needed for it to build and grow, and I was able to talk about the impact I knew I could have.

“The more we spoke the more excited I became. I am glad to say that exactly a year on, I feel like it was one of the best career decisions I have ever made.”

What do you like most about your job?

“Change and trust.

“We live in a world that is constantly changing. To work in an environment that embraces these changes and works to make every new day a positive one is very inspiring.

“I also have a massive amount of respect for the people I work with. We trust each other, we can be open and honest without fear, and we are always willing to listen to new ideas.”

How does your experience help you to do your job?

“Having been around for so long I have had the pleasure to work with brilliant people, in great organisations, learning from some of the best professionals in the business,” says Jack.

“I’ve gained a lot of important insights along the way.

“Although I am not arrogant enough to think I know it all, I try hard to share my experiences and this allows me to look at every new challenge with perspective. It turns out I am not always correct!

“I have also had experience in the UK and international markets, which means I can help our advisers with unusual cross-border cases. This might include subjects like currency, which aren’t always thought about when planning.”

What 3 pieces of financial advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

1. Be patient

“We always hear about ‘get rich quick’ stories, but very rarely do we hear the ‘lost a load quick’ side.

“Of course, there have been some amazing success stories, but if you just invest and be patient, the long-term trends tend to look after you.”

2. Plan for the “what if?”

“I have always been willing to take on a new challenge and jump into new ventures, and I like to think of myself as a positive person. However, some things are out of our hands.

“We cannot guarantee good health or that a short-term move might turn into something much longer.

“Take the leaps, go for it, but plan for the things that could go wrong, and do it early and well enough to make a difference.”

3. Wealth and health are connected

“It’s no good being the richest person in the graveyard.

“Look after yourself, exercise, eat properly and use the energy this gives you to work towards being the best you can be both in and outside of work.

“Work hard and with energy, enthusiasm, and passion. This will give you the springboard for everything else you want to achieve.

“It’s up to you to seek out success – it won’t just come to you.”
